After a successful first tailgate for the Marshall game, which attracted about 20 alumni brothers (plus the entire active chapter and a flock of prospective Dekes), we’re looking forward to a larger showing this weekend for what could be the biggest home game of the year.
Bob Dreelin and Buzz Wainman graciously volunteered to be our alumni organizers for this week – come join them and others! Kickoff is at 3:30 pm, so we’ll start at 11:00am.
As always, our location is Lot 4, Space 94, located across Spring Drive from the football stadium and just down from the softball field. We’re in the corner, with one side facing Southgate Drive and the other side backing up to the track. See you there.

This is the first home tailgate. We know many of you will be in town… please join us on Saturday for the Marshall tailgate!
The active chapter is hosting the event this week to help you rekindle old friendships with familiar faces. Kickoff is at 1:30 pm, so we’ll start at 10:30am.
The actives are using the tailgate as a rush function to attract new members and as such we are looking for a large alumni turnout to help demonstrate the strength of the brotherhood and friendships that last for many years past our undergraduate days.
As always (second year in a row at least!), our location is Lot 4, Space 94, located across Spring Drive from the football stadium and just down from the softball field. We’re in the corner, with one side facing Southgate Drive and the other side backing up to the track. See you there.

The Nebraska game is the next week and Alumni Bob Dreelin (Spring ‘71) and Buzz Wainman (Fall ‘74) have graciously offered to be the organizing hosts for the event. A 3:30 pm kickoff means we will be going by noon with tailgate. This game is expected to be the largest crowd of the season.

We are starting the tailgate season in Atlanta for the VT-Alabama game. Bob Snyder has scoped the area and we have settled on meeting at the STATS Food Play Sports Bar & Grill.
All area restaurants and bars are expected to be packed and private function rooms were either unavailable or exorbitantly expensive, so we decided that a designated pre-game to the pre-game meeting point location lunch/drinks was the best alternative.
Look for the DKE/DKS tap table gathering and check at front door for location. A few brave hearted Dekes have volunteered to get there around noon to secure a tap table or two. Show up anytime on Saturday September 5th, between 12:00pm and 3:00pm and ask for the Deke table and we should be present.
The location is 300 Marietta Street approximate 3-4 blocks from the Georgia Dome Stadium. Maps and restaurant information can be found on following website: www.statsatl.com

Maryland tailgate in its early stages
We are continuing to attract new believers to the Alumni Tailgate.
A full list of attendees is forthcoming, but we did see Jerry Bryant, Chuck Bradley (Winter ‘76) and Charlie Webb (Spring ‘85) among others, plus an awful lot of active brothers including all 10 Fall ‘08 pledges. Impressive. And, the Hokies might even have an offense. Things are looking up.
On that note we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve come up with a real reason to come to the Duke game on November 22:
THE ANNUAL DKE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEETING
AND OPEN HOUSE
Second Annual Alumni Open House
12:00-1:30pm at the DKE House. See the completely finished attic renovations in person at noon, then stay for…
The Alumni of the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon, Inc.
Annual Meeting (both fun AND required by law!)
1:30-2:00pm. Ask demanding questions of your alumni board. Then join us for the grand old tradition that is the DKE House-Lane Stadium Stumble to…
The Duke Alumni Tailgate
2:30pm until kickoff at 5:30. (Yes, Duke really is a night game!!)
Mark your calendars.

After two tailgates we’ve seen 35 different Deke Alumni. That’s a pretty good start for a brand new event. And this weekend is Homecoming, and we’re hoping to add to the total.
We know many of you will be in town… please join us on Saturday for the Western Kentucky tailgate!
Bert Burson (Winter ‘79) is hosting the event this week to help you rekindle old friendships with familiar faces. Kickoff is at 1:30 pm, so we’ll start at 10:30.

The Alumni Association’s first two stadium lot tailgates at the Furman and Georgia Tech games came together successfully, with our next one planned for the coming weekend.
Feedback from alumni was uniformly positive with 15 alumni and guests attending the Furman tailgate and a whopping 39 at the Georgia Tech tailgate, in addition to our active brothers who helped make it happen.
Thanks to everyone who showed up and to those that helped make it happen – especially Theta Bowden and the Active Chapter.

The first stadium Alumni Tailgate last week went smoothly with attendance of about 15 alumni Dekes and guests – a good start for our first event at a game against a cupcake opponent.
Thanks to Theta Bowden (Fall ‘70) for hosting and to Mickey Hayes (Spring ’62) for supplying the parking space.
It’s time to raise the stakes this weekend against Georgia Tech… VT’s ACC debut and probably the best home game to see this season. We’re aiming to double our turnout. We know many of you will be in town… please join us at 11:00am on Saturday to rekindle old friendships with familiar faces!
Our location is Lot 4, Space 94, located across Spring Drive from the football stadium and just down from the softball field. We’re in the corner, with one side facing Southgate Drive and the other side backing up to the track. See you there.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 19: We are arranging an Open House/Alumni Association Gathering before and after the VT football Spring Game.
We will be showing off the completed attic and second floor renovations. The contractor and architect will be present along with the House Committee members to give tours and answer questions.
Please take the time to visit for some refreshments, to view the renovation progress and see brothers. Families are welcome. We had a large turnout for the Alumni Meeting last fall and hope to repeat it!
